Welcome Back!

Old Stuff

I pushed back the due dates for Assignments #8 and #9.

Assignment #8: Meter (Round 2)

Assignment #8 is just like the previous meter exercise. Six more questions, check plus if you can do better than chance.

Round II is due before Class 9.

Assignment #9: Quiz Two Preview

We never made it to Quiz Two, but the Quiz Two Preview lives on. Homework #9 asks you questions about the Baroque period that maybe would've appeared on that test.

Tuesday people heard me talk about the last three pieces on the playlist, but Thursday people did not. Sorry Thursday peeps, but I'm leaving those questions in this exercise.

Check out the Class 7 blog and Class 7 Notes to figure out how to answer those questions when they come up.

This one is due before Class 9.

New Stuff

Assignment #10: Intro to the Classical Period

First, check out our online unit about the Classical Period. Then, Exercise #10 asks you questions about it.

If you open these two links in separate tabs it should be easy to flip back and forth and do it "open book."

This assignment is due before Class 10.

Assignment #11: The Violin Family

Here the online material is in the best format, I think. At the top of the page there is a talk-through video that presents everything exactly like I would like to have it. If you are feeling tired of reading, you can just relax and watch that! Then, below that, the same information is presented in text with shorter videos you can click at your own pace.

I made this unit a while ago. Sadly I don't think I'll have enough time to make many new ones that are quite this elaborate.

Once you look at the material, Exercise #11 asks you questions about it.

I think you want to wear headphones or earphones for this one, since the difference between violin, viola, cello and double bass can be pretty subtle.

This one is due before Class 10.

Assignment #12: Dynamics, Articulation, and Tempo

This online unit is about the special instructions musicians put in the music to indicate loudness, speed, and the way each note should be played.

Then Exercise #12 asks you questions about it.

I think you want to wear headphones or earphones for this one, since some of the music is soft.

This assignment is due before Class 10.

OK, that's it!

This is the new format. Remember that you can always email me if you have questions.
